Female Founder Feature with Arraei Collective

———-

We're excited to introduce you to Natalie Hellyar, the founder of Arraei Collective. This online shop offers women's minimal bohême fashion, crafted responsibly, from all natural fibres. Arraei is a conscious collection for the wild at heart, designed to last a lifetime. We asked Natalie a few questions about her life an as entrepreneur and know you're going to love all that she has to share. Enjoy!

What would you say is the #1 thing it takes to be successful?
    • Perseverance

What's one thing you do everyday that contributes to your success?
    • Morning yoga, taking the time to be present and create daily rituals that allow me to have space in my mind, declutter and focus.

What's one book that's contributed to your business success?
    • Wow. There are many - Herman Hesse "Siddhartha" , though its not a book that would normally be referred to for entrepreneurs, it has given me tools for deep introspection. "Grit" by Angela Duckworth is another influential book.

What is your favourite productivity tip?
    • Plan ahead. Take a few hours on Monday or Sunday and plan the week ahead. This helps me make sure I use my time wisely. Being a business owner means you wear many hats and have big plans... sometimes not everything can get done and sometimes it can with careful planning - so planning and prioritizing are the best ways for me to be productive. Which is funny because I am usually more of a "shoot from the hip" kinda woman.

What inspired you to start your business?
    • I was frustrated with the way people consumed products that were harmful to the environment and its inhabitants... and I felt that the changes needed to come from businesses - small businesses that people can rely on, that are accountable and honest. I wanted to uplift and promote the consciousness shift, give women access to beautifully made hemp + linen clothing that would last them a lifetime. I wanted to show people that we can inhabit this planet and consume responsibly and that we can live in harmony with our environment.

Do you have a morning routine that you swear by? What is it and why does it contribute to your success?
    • Wake up. Exercise (this is usually yoga for me). Shower. Coffee. Light a Candle / Insense. Lemon Water.

Do you have a favourite business podcast? Why do you love it?
    • How I built this with Guy Raz, is a great podcast for learning the in's and out's of what it takes to build a business - I love how Guy unpacks the founders stories. The Mike Dillard Podcast is also great for information on specific business advice in specific industries.
How do you relax and recharge?
    • The Beach + Sun - which is not always accessible in Canada. (Im a South African and very used to the sunshine) so when I can't do beach I do nature walks. Exercising also helps me recharge and clear my mind. A long hot bath and a glass of wine. YES!

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in business?
    • Ask as many questions as you can... be tenacious and determined. Don't be disheartened when things don't go as planned. Breath in and focus. Know your strengths and hone in on what you are good at, what makes you different and what's accessible.

How do you maintain a positive mindset in business and life when those inevitable challenges arise?
    • Being around people and friends, talking things through and getting fresh perspectives. Having a mentor helps too! It's really hard to be positive all the time, I think what helps me is taking a few steps back and seeing the bigger picture. Trying to be less 'attached' and emotional. Remembering our business mission and why I am here. I try to clear my head when challenges arise so I take a small break, realign myself and then get back to it.
