Hunter Kouture is an online local Ontario shop based in Fergus. Jeanny, the owner and designer, creates a variety of products including wooden decor signs, gift tags, dresser knobs, wedding accessories, and more.

What inspired you to start your business?

I opened up my business when I was pregnant with my first child. At first it was just a creative outlet for me. It slowly started to gain traction.

When my son turned 1 years old, I was due to give birth to my second child. (My boys are 1 year and 5 days apart).

I decided I was not going back to a corporate job, as I loved staying at home with my children. I really started taking my business seriously at this point. Also, my oldest son was diagnosed with speech apraxia. His treatments were becoming expensive and my business really helped pay for all his treatment.

Being able to help provide for my family is what truly inspired me to continue and expand my business.

How would you describe your brand?

I would describe my business as a personalized One Stop Gift Shop. We make Shirts, Sweaters, Wooden Signs, DIY Painting kits, etc.

All the wood products are designed and made by me. The shirts and sweaters are designed by me. I am always learning new techniques and expanding my products.

I work with my clients making one of a kind pieces. I usually have people reach out to me with request or an idea and I really work with them to make their ideas come to life. Truly making it a unique experience and gift.

What’s your bestselling product?

My Nursery Signs are my best selling product.

Why do you think it’s so popular?

I think they are popular, as the client is able to choose the paint colour for each piece of the sign. The client can add a personalized name to the signs. Truly making it work with the colours/ theme in their room.

I also have clients that will message me and say I love this design – can we add this to it or take this out. We make the process for the client easy and enjoyable. We also provide our clients mock ups. We only go into production once the client approves the final design.

What’s your favourite product from your shop right now?

I love making the nursery signs. I love seeing the new baby name trends. I also love seeing how each paint combo turns out.

What’s your favourite local shop?

Bath & Woollen Works – they knit the cutest little toys. We saw them at the Wytch Folk Market in Fergus and bought these cute glow in the dark ghost and a “hello kitty” little witch – so cute!
