Mala was born from a love of scent, design, and the quiet rituals that make everyday life feel more meaningful. When we acquired the brand in fall 2025, we were immediately drawn to its intentional foundation and the emotional connection people already had with it.
What inspired us was the opportunity to carry that vision forward while thoughtfully evolving the brand. Candles have a unique way of holding memory and setting the tone of a space, and we saw Mala as a chance to create products that feel both comforting and elevated. Our goal has always been to honour the brand’s roots while shaping its next chapter with care, creativity, and purpose.
Mala is a modern candle brand rooted in nostalgia, simplicity, and clean craftsmanship. Each candle is made using clean-burning waxes and premium essential and fragrance blends that are phthalate- and paraben-free. Our process is intentional from start to finish, from scent development to pouring to final packaging.
What makes Mala unique is the emotional storytelling behind each product. Our scents are inspired by familiar moments, memories, and feelings rather than trends. Packaging is made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable and biodegradable, with no plastic used. Every detail is designed to feel thoughtful, giftable, and timeless, creating candles that are as meaningful as they are beautiful.

Cereal has become a customer favourite because it instantly sparks nostalgia. The scent smells exactly like Fruit Loops, bringing people right back to Saturday mornings, colourful cereal bowls, and carefree childhood moments. It’s playful, unexpected, and immediately recognizable.
What makes it especially compelling is how balanced the fragrance is. While it’s fun and sweet, it’s not overpowering, making it something people actually want to burn regularly. Like all Mala candles, Cereal is made using clean-burning wax and premium phthalate- and paraben-free fragrance blends, so customers get that nostalgic experience without compromising on quality.
2019
Right now, my personal favourite from Mala is Milk & Sugar. I’ve always been a sweets girl, and this one feels like pure comfort to me. With creamy notes of vanilla and sweet cinnamon, it instantly brings me back to weekends spent baking fresh cookies in the kitchen with my mom. It smells delicious, cozy, and familiar in the best way. I always light it when we have company over, because it makes the whole space smell like I’ve been baking, even when I haven’t. Happy to take the credit though 😉
My favourite local business is Homestead Bakery. They specialize in long-ferment sourdough baked in small batches using locally milled flours, and everything they do feels rooted in care and community. It’s the kind of place that prioritizes quality over speed and values the relationships behind the product, from farmers to makers. Beyond the bread itself, it feels like a true home away from home, which is something I really admire and try to reflect in our own work at Mala.
