Local Markdale Ontario Shops
Markdale is a small town in Southern Ontario (Grey County) approximately two hours north of Toronto. If you’ve ever driven to Saugeen Beach (previously called Sauble Beach) from Toronto, you most likely drove right through Markdale. I’m excited to share some of the great local Markdale, Ontario shops you can visit in this shopping guide. Hopefully on your next road trip you stop in to check them out!

Grey Bruce Design Shop
Grey Bruce Design Shop is one of the newest additions to the local Markdale shopping scene. This boutique gift shop is where you’ll find a beautifully curated collection of products from artists, designers, and brands from within Canada and abroad. They carry everything from fine art, luxury teas, handmade vases, cozy blankets, and more. If you appreciate the finer things in life and aesthetically pleasing details, you definitely need to stop in at Grey Bruce Design Shop.

Susan’s Deli
I highly recommend stopping in at Susan’s Deli to grab a coffee, baked good (hello cinnamon bun), or a sandwich – their staple are hoagies. It’s a favourite spot among locals and one of the highlights of Markdale’s downtown core.

While you’re there, you’ll also notice a small but mighty collection of products for sale. They have local pottery, greeting cards from cool brands like Poppermost Prints. They also have food items like Canadian hot sauce from Heartbeat Hot Sauce Co., coffee beans, and pasta. It’s a great spot to grab a treat for yourself and a gift for someone else. Win-Win!
Speaking Volumes Books
If you love visiting bookstores with character, Speaking Volumes Books is a must-visit local Markdale shop. It’s full of great books and I don’t just mean because the shop is literally full of books – from floor to ceiling – they have an incredible collection of a variety of book genres, including a large academic and philosophy collection.

If you have a specific book in mind, let them know (it’s usually the owner Kevin there). He’ll disappear for a few minutes and more times than not, come back with the book you were looking for or something similar. It’s really a unique Ontario bookstore worth visiting.
PJ Knickerbockers
PJ Knickerbockers has been a staple in Markdale since 1995. Although it’s changed owners and locations, this local Markdale shop is still the perfect spot to grab a gift for babies and kids. That being said, they also carry Cobble Hill puzzles, greeting cards, and a large collection of Lego for kids and kids at heart.

Scoops
You may know of Markdale because it’s the home of one of the most popular Canadian ice cream brands, Chapman’s Ice Cream. If you visit Markdale in the summer make sure you stop in at Scoops for a delicious ice cream cone. I recommend picking a Chapman’s flavour but they also offer soft serve.
Northern Chestnut
Northern Chestnut (formerly called JJMJ Embroidery) has ready-made clothing, hats, and mugs available or they can create custom embroidered items for you. Creating a custom piece is a great option if you want a specific saying or picture on a hat/hoodie, or if you need custom clothing for a team or company. You can visit them to discuss and plan out your next custom project.

Markdale is a great community that’s continuing to grow and evolve as more people move to the area. I hope this shopping guide encourages you to stop in and check out these local Markdale, Ontario shops on your next visit. As always, thanks for shopping local.
