Learn more about Arrowmatic Food

What inspired you to start your business?

I started my business out of a passion for real food and flavour. After working with specialty foods, I saw how many products were filled with additives and decided to create small-batch blends using real ingredients like Canadian maple sugar and Canadian sea salt.

How do you describe your business?

We’re a small-batch, family-run spice company crafting handcrafted blends with real spices, Canadian maple sugar, and sea salt—no fillers. Everything is mixed, filled, and sealed by hand, with a focus on quality, consistency, and bold, versatile flavour.

What’s your bestselling product?

Spud Rub — IYKYK. It’s our best-selling blend by a long shot. It started as something for potatoes and fries, but people use it on just about everything now. It’s a simple 50/50 mix of spices and Canadian sea salt—no sugar, no fillers—with a nice balance of ground and granulated texture, plus roasted garlic, onion, and herbs for that rich, savoury flavour.

Why do you think it’s so popular?

I think it really comes down to how we make everything at Arrowmatic Food. We keep it small-batch and make it all here in Ontario using quality ingredients—just real flavour. We also pay close attention to texture, using a mix of ground and granulated spices so it actually sticks to the food and hits properly. It’s built for both foodies and families—something that’s easy to use but still delivers great flavour. At the end of the day, people like it because it’s honest, it’s local, and it does what it’s supposed to do.

What’s your personal favourite product from your shop right now?

Cadien is definitely my favourite. It’s our baby—the first blend we ever made, so there’s a lot of meaning behind it, and it still stands out for how much flavour it brings. When I’m mixing it, the smell hits right away—smoky, savoury, lots of garlic and herbs, and you really notice the freshness of the paprika. It’s a bright red from the freshly milled paprika and smoked paprika, and even when we’re sampling it, people pick up on that aroma right away. It’s one of those blends you can smell and instantly know it’s going to be good.

What’s your favourite local Ontario shop?

Hunter’s Holy Dough is one of our favourite local businesses. Matt and Sarah have built something really special—they’re making fresh bagels every morning, and a lot of the time they’re sold out within the first few hours. There’s something about a fresh bagel, sometimes not even toasted, that just hits. You can tell how much care goes into what they do. We’ve also been lucky to work with them—they top our spice blends on their bagels and use a custom blend in their herb & garlic cream cheese, with heavy dill, lots of roasted garlic, and freeze-dried chives. It’s been really cool to see our blends come to life in their shop.
