Boreal Home Studio is an online shop and local Quebec business creating detailed hand-stamped custom pet ID tags and key chains.

Three years ago, I bought an off-grid cabin, tucked away in the heart of the boreal forest with no road access. I rely on a boat in the summer and a snowmobile in the winter to travel home. I sold most of my belongings, left the city, and moved to live closer to nature. I got the dog my younger self had always dreamed of. My goal was to be able to earn a living while making memories wandering in the woods with my dog and because of my remote location, Boreal Home Studio was born. I have always been creative and was drawn toward the craft of hand stamping. I wanted a medium that would represent my lifestyle here: something rustic, using traditional equipment and skills.

Everything is hand-stamped, from pet ID tags to keychains, or school bag and lunch box tags. What makes it unique are the details each buyer asks me to include to make their creation one-of-a-kind. I am offering a variety of sizes and materials to suit everyone’s budget, including my favourite, brass, which offers timeless style, crafted for durability and rust resistance.

The pet ID tags is by far my most popular at the moment. People love personalizing their tags for their pets or choose from my existing designs.

I love creating, and I feel that personalized items make such unique, meaningful, and thoughtful gifts. Imagine someone needing a dog tag who has a special attachment to a specific place (Alberta, Alaska, the Yukon, etc.). You can choose from my existing designs or create your own from scratch. I currently have a hundred stamps to choose from, mostly featuring Canadian heritage and wildlife. I love when people reach out to me with their own ideas. It’ possible to send me a quick sketch of what you have in mind, along with the stamp numbers you want to use and where you want it placed. You can also choose your font and add a phone number to a keychain so you never lose your keys again. Maybe you visited Banff National Park but couldn’t find a cool souvenir. A custom keychain is a beautiful reminder of the places you have traveled. Make it even more unique by adding coordinates or a special date. You can engrave a favourite quote, initials, song lyrics—the possibilities are endless. My previous experience working in schools gave me the idea to make personalized tags for school bags and lunch boxes. This way, your child is less likely to lose their belongings at school, and items can be easily returned if misplaced during a school trip. You can personalize the front of the tag with a name and design, and the back with a phone number and allergy information (or any other particularity). For example, you could create a tag for a winter jacket for a daughter with the inscription, “I am autistic,” and a contact number on the back. Given my background, I want to make beautiful, durable tags that really serve a practical purpose and give the buyer peace of mind.

I would say my favourite projects are the ones not yet in the shop, the unique items I get to create because someone chose me for a very sentimental project. I recently had a customer reach out to me to design a keychain for her father, who has been sober for 40 years! She knew what it would mean to him to carry this everyday reminder of his great sense of achievement and fulfillment. On one side, I stamped the inscription, “One day at a time” (a phrase often seen on sobriety tokens), along with the year he started his journey. On the back, I marked the “40 years” achievement and added some small tree designs, as he loves being in nature.

Anupaya, a small cabin rental on the banks of the Ottawa river, this place is magical and the owner are just the best.
