What inspired you to start your business?
When my first son was an infant he started developing a rash on his face. It turned out to be eczema and nothing would help and I wasn’t willing to use steroids on a baby’s face. So, in an effort to find a solution to the issue and help calm his irritation, I started making him a chamomile soap. Since I was making way more than 1 bar at a time, I’d give it away to others who loved it too. From there, I decided to start selling my additional soap and created more unique formulations with skin care in mind. From there, but definitely not over night, we became a Canadian brand people trust for their bath and body needs.
How do you describe your business?
Buck Naked is a vegan, handcrafted, sustainable bath and body brand found in Cambridge Ontario in 2013. We make out soap with the traditional cold process method of soap making using only sustainable raw materials that are in abundance from nature and, in line with our values around sustainability, we ensure accessible pricing. Our business is mainly based on a wholesale model, selling to local retailers to ensure the growth and sustainability of the local market, but also sell direct via our website. We believe in and incorporate the 3 pillars of sustainability in all our business decisions: environment, society and economics. We believe, is we all did this for every decision, true environmental change could be made.
What’s your bestselling product & why do you think it’s so popular?
Rosemary, Eucalyptus and Spearmint Shower Steamers – followed closely by our Jasmine Mosaic soap.
They smell amazing. We use only natural essential oils so there is no ‘chemical’ smell to our products. We believe this is Important. People should get what they pay for.
What’s your personal favourite product?
I love our Dead Sea Mud Soap. It’s unscented, but it makes your skin feel like heaven.
