How would you describe your business?

I have been making quilts for over 20 years and have learned so much along the way. I took lots of classes from local quilts shops and from conventions I have attended. At the various conventions in Canada, England and the US I have been lucky enough to learn from some of the best quilters in the business. I have developed my own style over the years. I like using traditional designs in modern ways. I gravitate to colourful combinations that allow the fabrics to really stand out. I use only the best quality cotton fabrics along with a lovely, soft cotton and bamboo batting. This combination makes a soft and warm quilt that washes beautifully. My quilts can be used for years as long as they are taken care of. I love to hear from clients who are thrilled with their purchase. I focus more on creating good quality products rather than producing large quantities of products.

What was the inspiration to open your business?

I can’t stop making quilts because I love it! Once I realized I can’t keep them all I decided to open an Etsy shop to share them with others. Besides quilts I also make a variety of small bags that can be used for storing anything from cosmetics to crafting supplies.

What’s your bestselling product?

Baby quilts.

Why do you think it’s so popular?

I think people like to give a handmade quilt to a new baby to wrap them in warmth and love. It can be a nostalgic gift from a grandparent or a gift from a friend. Baby quilts are a nice way to send love to both the parents and the baby. I use 100% cotton fabrics and cotton/bamboo batting in these quilts. They are washed and dried before I list them and can safely be washed and dried whenever required. Unlike vintage quilts materials today are much less prone to shrinking and fading.

What’s your favourite product from your own shop?

I am loving the little pencil cases I started making about a year ago. They give me a chance to use a wide variety of my favourite fabrics. I love to play with creating combinations of colours in quilts too but in this small scale it is very satisfying. They have been popular in my Etsy shop and also as gifts for my own friends. I think they are very practical and useful so appeal to lots of people.
