We started our farm business to have a more closed loop with the food our family ate and unbeknown to us, it opened up a whole community of support around us. The Barefoot Faerie line evolved from years of making salves and creams for my children when they were babies and wanting to know more about ingredients that I was putting on their skin.
I have a diploma in Organic Skincare from the UK, which helped me perfect my formulas from the early days and gave me the confidence to sell my products to a broader audience.
The botanicals that are infused into each and every product are predominantly grown on our farm in synergy with the Highland Cattle that roam our pastures. Everything is connected in our farming ecosystem and we believe the energy emanates into every product.
Currently tallow is a buzz in the skincare market and therefore our SORCHA balm is our current best seller, using tallow directly from our farm.
But, prior to that our La Lumière facial oil is our best seller year after year.
Customers love the lightweight feel of La Lumière, with its silky, nourishing ingredients that feed the skin with rich phyto-nutrients from 15 botanicals. Its is suitable for all skin types due to the soothing, vitamin rich plants infused into the oils for 6 weeks. This type of extraction method allows us to harness every last drop of the powerful properties from our botanicals in an intentional, slow process.

My current favourite product is our Lupin Eye Elixir. The winters in Canada can really can dry out your skin, with harsh winds and wood heat. Having a small roller of vitamin rich oils to easily apply when I’m out and about is simple and effective and it makes cakey under eye make up glow in an instant.
My favourite local business is really hard to choose. There are so many here in Nova Scotia. A business that has been with me for a long time is Ali from Verv Skin. We studied together, buy ingredients and packaging together and have very similar businesses, but it is always community over competition with us. I buy most of my kids skincare from Ali, as it’s apparently not cool to use your mums skincare line.
