Noël & Co.
Noël & Co. is a local Nova Scotia business and Canadian candle company based in Kentville. Their wood wick candles are made with coconut soy wax and non-toxic fragrance oils.
What inspired you to start your business?
Noël & Co. started as a way for me and my twin sister Janie to earn money for a trip to Greece. We were sixteen, obsessed with Greek mythology, and determined to make it happen on our own. Traditional job options were limited for me due to my cerebral palsy, so we came up with something we could build together — right from our kitchen.
We started pouring candles with a borrowed wax melter and a lot of trial and error. What began as a practical idea quickly turned into something more meaningful. People connected with our products, and with our story. Before we knew it, Noël & Co. had become a real business — one that now supports our family, gives back to causes we care about, and reflects who we are.
How do you describe your business?
Noël & Co. is a family-run candle studio I started with my twin sister Janie when we were sixteen. These days, our mom and Nana are also a huge part of what we do — making this a true three-generation team effort. We’re based in rural Nova Scotia, where we hand-pour every candle using virgin coconut soy wax, wooden wicks, and non-toxic fragrance oils, all in our signature amber apothecary jars.
We’re self-taught makers who care about craft and community. Janie paints the artwork for our Original Art Collection, and we design our scents to feel beautiful and intentional in your space — inspired by memories, moods, and the feeling of home.
We’re also proudly queer- and disability-owned, and we donate 2% of every sale to the Kidney Foundation of Canada — a cause close to our hearts. At the end of the day, we’re just a small studio that loves what we do, making candles that feel personal, thoughtful, and made with care.
What’s your bestselling product?
Our bestselling products are hands down our Original Art Collection candles — especially the holiday editions. These are the ones wrapped in hand-painted artwork by my twin sister Janie, who co-founded Noël & Co. with me. The Christmas collection in particular has become a customer favourite. With a last name that literally means Christmas, you know we don’t take the season lightly!
Why do you think these candles are so popular?
There’s something deeply personal about this collection, and I think people feel that. Each candle features original artwork by Janie — she paints every design by hand in our studio — and we wrap those paintings around our amber apothecary jars to create a candle that feels more like a little piece of art.
People tell us they light them slowly, give them as gifts, or collect the full set — which is why we’re so excited to complete the 12 Days of Christmas collection this year.
What’s your personal favourite product?
Right now, my personal favourite is our Vanilla & Woods Everywhere Mist. It’s soft, warm, and just the right amount of cozy — I’ve been wearing it as perfume all season long. Our Everywhere Mists are linen-safe and body-safe, so they’re incredibly versatile, but I especially love how this one settles on skin. Every time I leave the house wearing it, someone tells me I smell amazing. That’s always a good sign, right?
What’s your favourite local shop?
That’s an impossible question to answer! As weekly vendors at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market, we’re surrounded by some of the most talented small business owners we’ve ever met — many of whom have become dear friends. We’re constantly inspired by the creativity, craftsmanship, and heart of our fellow makers. It’s a privilege to be part of such a supportive and passionate community.
