The owner of a local knitting shop saw a bag that I had made for a friend’s birthday and asked if I would like to stock bags in her shop. Before that I was just sewing for fun. It was huge to have someone want to sell my items.
How would you describe your business?
Kamp Yukon produces handmade fun and functional accessories using modern fabrics. These are primarily totes, pouches and wallets, but also include smaller items such as keychains, scrunchies and home, kitchen and wearable accessories. Many of my product ideas come from custom requests or things I need and use on a daily basis.
What do you love most about owning and running your business?
I love the freedom to create with my hands and then see what I’ve made be used and loved by people.
What’s your bestselling product? Why do you think it’s so popular?
It really depends on the season and what I have in the shop at the time. I tend to sell more locally and the Yukon loves variety!
Did you always know you’d follow this path or how has your journey as a maker/business owner progressed?
I’ve always been crafty and creative. I’m a a graphic designer professionally but have always enjoyed creating with my hands. When it came to staring my own business, I let things happen organically. I like to let opportunities come naturally.
