What inspired you to start your business?
I just got tired of paying so much money for products that did not deliver on what they promised. After being scammed a couple of times, I was really fed up and found a recipe online to make my own, so I ordered all the ingredients and set to work. But it was awful, it was very oily and ran into my eyes. So I thought “how can I make this better” and started researching. What I learned blew me away, when I started reading the ingredients on the products I had been using.
So by trial and error and much research, I managed to create a few products for myself. I spared no expense because I was making it for myself and still spending less than when I was by buying the highly promoted brands. I wanted high quality. I also learned that products that other companies were charging $1-200 for, actually were costing them less than $5 to make because they were full of cheap ingredients and harmful chemicals.
Soon people started asking me what I was using because they noticed a difference in my skin; then begged to try it. Next they told me I can’t keep this to myself. That’s how my company was started. I didn’t plan it, but I am truly proud of my products and amazed at the difference they have made on my own skin and my customers.
How do you describe your business?
My products are organic, anti-aging and anti-acne. I started with a plan to make products suitable for mature women, because I was of the age that my skin was showing signs of aging. I wanted a good product for myself, so I spared no expense in the ingredients. I do not have a chemistry degree, but I do hold a master’s degree, which taught me how to effectively research and learn. I applied these skills to learning about skin and skincare, how to make my products bioavailable so that the high-quality nutrients would actually be absorbed by my skin and penetrate deep into the epidermis, where it’s needed in order to heal the damage.
My final recipes were not created quickly. There was much research and trial and error. I had to learn the processes required to mix the ingredients I wanted to include and make them still a nice consistency, without compromising the value each ingredient brings. Oil ingredients and water-soluble ingredients do not mix. I learned that many companies use solubilizers, but most have harmful chemicals that damage the skin. As well, many of these products cause the skincare to simply coat the skin. It feels nice and smooth maybe but if your serums and moisturizers only sit on top of your skin, they are not doing any good. In fact, they clog the pores and do more harm than good. So I had to experiment a lot in order to find organic solubilizers and emulsifiers, that worked well with each of my products.
It was a lot of work, but each triumph was very rewarding. Since my products are organic, they truly do work for all skin types. The natural ingredients I am using actually target what is needed for each user. This makes them very unique. I wasn’t concerned about acne, however; even mature skin has break outs. Some of my younger family members that wanted to try the products I had created, told me that their acne cleared up. That was a bonus to me. I had reports of all kinds of skin issues clearing up. I guess the most unique thing about my products is because I do use only the highest quality ingredients. I truly have not found other products like mine available on the market. My customers are loyal too.
What’s your bestselling product & why do you think it’s so popular?
Facial Toner.
It is very gentle but works amazingly. I package it in a spray bottle, so many of my customers like that. It is also a versatile product. I didn’t even realize when I was making it. Some of my customers use it as a make-up setting spray. Others spray it on several times a day just as a refresher. You can also spray some on cotton pads and lay back with them pressed over the eye area. This reduces puffiness, and bags under the eyes. It is designed to reduce pore size on the face as well. I also put a small amount of organic white melon and violet fragrance oil in it that is very pleasing. I am continually told how much people love it. I think it is a best seller because it is used for many purposes.
What’s your personal favourite product?
I personally love the serums the most because they have all the high quality targeted ingredients that deliver the nutrients I need for my skin. I think they are special to me also because only I know how hard I worked to get them to the quality I wanted. Only I know how many versions I made before I found success with my final products. It was also the first product I set out to make. Actually, my moisturizers were created by mistake, trying to make a good serum. Sometimes, they were too thick, but I realized it was an amazing moisturizer. I had to make a few changes, but was thrilled with what I’d created. Then of course, I had to make cleanser and toner, in order to have the full line.
