We first met Kate, the owner and artist behind Infinite Glassworks, at an event in Flesherton, ON at one of our favourite stops in Grey County – Savvy Co.. Her hand blown glass creations are beautiful and we knew we had to share them with you. We’re excited for you to learn more about Kate and her business, Infinite Glassworks, in our interview below.

Infinite Glassworks In Berkeley, Ontario
How would you describe your business?
Infinite Glassworks is a glassblowing studio located in the forest near Berkeley, Ontario. I specialize in colourful, modern handblown glass for the home with a specific focus on drinkware. Using specially designed hand tools, I colour, inflate and shape 2100ºF molten glass into my signature glassware.
My studio is open for shopping by appointment, and my glassware is available online at www.infiniteglassworks.com. I teach glassblowing classes at the studio from January to May.

What’s your best selling product and why do you think it’s so popular?
Definitely the Lowrider series of cups.
The Lowrider cups are probably my most versatile line of glassware. Their size makes them ideal for wine, cocktails, water and more. I offer them in an array of colours and patterns which makes them popular for mixing and matching. Occasionally customers want them in sets of all the same colour, but more often than not, they’re mixed and matched into custom sets. They’re all handblown one at a time using molten glass inflated into a specially designed glassblowing mold. This enables me to make them a uniform shape and size while still allowing the individual handmade nature to shine through. Each one is completely one of a kind, no two will ever be exactly the same!
What inspired you to open your shop?
I graduated from the glass program at Sheridan College School of Craft + Design in 2002. I knew I wanted to live and work in rural Grey County so it was only natural to build a business here. It is possible to work for someone else as a glassblower, however, it would have meant that I would have to live in an urban centre, and at that time there were very few opportunities to do that. Running my own business was a natural first step in my career as a glassblower, and one that I’m thankful I was able to pursue so successfully.

What’s your favourite product that you make?
I personally love the hexagon cups. I am a big drink person, I like large cups that hold a lot of liquid and these are great for that. They’ll fit a full can of Spy Cider (my personal favourite). I also love bright saturated colours and these beauties really pop. They feel so good in the hand – the hexagon shape makes them easy to grip and hold on to – so important when you have little hands but want a big cup!
What’s your favourite local Ontario business?
My favourite local business is Supernatural Facials. Julie is amazing!!

These hand blown glass friendship balls have so many unique details and Kate makes them in so many great colours. We personally love the blue and green one on the bottom row.
