What inspired you to open your shop?
I was concerned about health and wellness, particularly the chemicals found in our personal care products. To keep costs down, I started making my own deodorant and toothpaste. Soon my friends began asking me to make body powder, then pain balm, and encouraged me to start selling them. In 2020 I launched a DIY recipe book to encourage others to take control of what they put on their bodies. This is called The DIY Apothecary and is available in some bookstore, and online.
How would you describe your business?
I am a Reiki and crystal healer, so I try to incorporate energy healing into the products I make. Each product is hand made, and in small batches on demand. This keeps the product fresh, longer. I use no preservatives, dyes, or fragrance. Just simple, organic ingredients, and 100% therapeutic grade essential oils.
What’s your best selling product and why is it so popular?
Our deodorant is our best seller. The deodorant combats hormonal odour, and keeps you dry. It’s the only deodorant our family uses. There is no aluminum or chemicals, ever!
We created and reformatted our recipe until it was just right! Our unique ingredients include activated charcoal, essential oils, and real lime. Many consumers have complained that natural deodorant can make you stink, which is why we give out free samples to try our completely fresh approach to deodorant. It’s so good, it’s the only deodorant we use ourselves!
What’s your favourite product from your own shop?
I love our soy candles. Not only do they smell great, they looks so pretty! We strive to create unique, and never seen before candles that are made with 100% soy wax, natural colour, and essential oils. More than just a container, it’s a work of art! Check out our original smoothie bowl candle in a genuine coconut bowl. Each one is one-of-a-kind.
What’s your favourite local Ontario business?
I love The Tiny Art Shack and truly admirer the owner Tina Breen. Tina is a maker but always puts her artisans first. She showcases each artist equally and is so excited and passionate about her business, that it shows! I feel so lucky to be a part of this great shop, and of course I’m also a customer.
