Our Top Pick: FALL BOOT X FLOWER print

When did you open your Etsy shop?

December 2021

What inspired you to start your business?

During the pandemic I was working part time and in school (online of course) but I still found myself having a lot of free time and I wanted a hobby/creative outlet. I started seeing ‘illustration’ type art on Pinterest and Instagram and instantly knew that’s what I wanted to do. Shortly after, I hopped on Apple’s BTS sale and bought myself an iPad and began drawing on all the free drawing apps out there. I knew I wanted to explore more so I bought Procreate and started drawing portraits with photos I had of my friends & family. Not long after, I had them asking me to draw portraits for gifts, Christmas cards, and wall art. I started up my instagram to begin my illustration journey and shann.creative was born. Long story short – a pandemic and an urge to be creative is what inspired me to start illustrating.

How would you describe your business?

shann.creative is all things illustration. My favourite illustrations are custom portraits of families, couples, friends, pets, etc. But I also love when people come to me with wacky creative illustrations as well. I’ve drawn Toronto Raptors players, Album Covers, Magazine Covers, a custom Bob’s Burgers Family, you name it and I would LOVE to draw it. I’ve printed my illustration on mugs, blankets, canvas, posters, mousepads, and so much more. They make the perfect gift.

Outside of custom illustrations I also love to draw anything and everything aesthetic. My sister is a sneaker head and that’s what got me into drawing all of the sneaker prints I have over on my Etsy. I have some friends who love to Raptors so I’m slowly getting into more sports illustrations. And I love all things plants, coffee, matcha, and flowers so I’m working my way through some more generic illustrations as well for things like Etsy and local markets.

Right now majority of my pieces are digital files and my clients go and print it themselves but I do occasionally print and ship. I like to print my art on watercolour paper from a local print shop here in Toronto.

What’s your bestselling product?

Custom Portraits for sure are my best selling “product”. It’s so unique to each and every order but that’s what makes it so special.

My best seller on Etsy is my SNEAKER X FLOWER print I collaborated with SnaptureThis on. She reached out to me with the idea, I drew it up for her, and now it’s a best seller in her store and a best seller on my Etsy.

Best Selling Product: SNEAKER X FLOWER print & custom illustrations

Why do you think it’s so popular?

Customs are the most popular because of how unique and special they are. It’s a popular item for people to gift. But it’s also a popular item to customize your wall space with. It’s a custom illustration to YOU and YOUR family/friends, no two drawings are alike and it’s just as special as a family portrait or a photo with your friend. It’s a timeless piece that can be used in so many different ways. They’re great for phone wallpaper, desktop wallpaper, wall hangings, printed on mugs or blankets. The options are endless when it comes to custom wall art and that’s why it’s a best seller. I help my client’s illustration vision come to life.
