What inspired you to start your business?
Starting Cabin Design Co. came from a mix of creativity, curiosity, and a desire to build something with my own two hands. I’ve always loved working with materials and exploring new techniques—especially when it came to personalizing gifts or décor.
I realized there was a real demand for high-quality, custom-made items that feel personal and have heart behind them. I wanted to create a space where people could find products that reflect their identity, celebrate milestones, or bring a little personality to their spaces. That sense of connection—whether cultural, seasonal, or emotional—is what continues to drive me today.
How would you describe your business?
Cabin Design Co. is a creative small business specializing in handcrafted wood and acrylic pieces that are both personal and high-quality. I design and produce everything in-house, from custom home décor and ornaments to earrings, signs, and event pieces. Each product is thoughtfully made with attention to detail, often blending modern laser-cutting technology with hands-on finishing techniques.
Materials are carefully chosen based on the product’s purpose—1/4″ birch plywood for sturdy, warm-toned wooden pieces, matte-painted MDF for clean-cut wall décor, and 1/8″ acrylic in a range of colours and finishes for a more playful, modern touch. I use a professional laser cutter for precision, but everything from sanding to assembly to painting or packaging is done by hand. This ensures every piece feels unique and polished, not mass-produced.
What makes Cabin Design Co. stand out is the balance between custom and quality. I take pride in being able to offer personalized options while maintaining a level of craftsmanship that makes each piece gift-worthy and long-lasting. I’m especially proud of my ability to capture niche interests or cultural identity in subtle, stylish ways—like my Franco-Ontarian collection or ornaments tailored to hobbies like hockey, lifting, or teaching.
I’m a formally trained graphic designer, and that background shapes every aspect of my work—from layout and composition to colour theory and typography. My design education taught me how to balance aesthetics with function, and I bring that same mindset into every product I create. Whether it’s a custom ornament or a large wall sign, I approach each piece with a designer’s eye and a maker’s hands. Cabin Design Co. is where my love of design and my passion for hands-on craftsmanship meet, and I’m constantly pushing myself to learn new techniques, explore new materials, and elevate the quality and creativity of what I offer. What are your bestselling products?
Medal holders and custom cribbage boards.
Why do you think they’re so popular?
Two of my best-selling products are the medal holder and the cribbage board—and it’s easy to see why they resonate with people. Both pieces strike a perfect balance between function and personalization.
The medal holder is especially popular with athletes and proud parents because it gives hard-earned achievements a place of honour. It’s more than just a display—it’s a daily reminder of the dedication and milestones behind each medal. Although there are many on the market ours stands out for its modern aesthetic.
The cribbage board, on the other hand, taps into a sense of nostalgia and tradition. It’s a classic game that many people associate with family, downtime at the cottage, or memories of playing with grandparents. What makes mine unique is the blend of craftsmanship and design—I incorporate clean graphics, custom engraving, and quality wood to create a board that’s both beautiful and built to last. Whether it’s given as a gift or kept as a family keepsake, it becomes something people want to display, not just stash in a drawer.

What’s your personal favourite product?
Right now, my personal favorite product is the dog memorial frame. It’s one of the most meaningful pieces I make, and every time I create one, it feels deeply personal—both for me and for the customer. As a dog lover who has experienced the heartbreak of losing a pet, I understand how important it is to have a special way to remember them.
The frame combines a thoughtful design with space for a photo and a name, and I sometimes get to include a personalized message or quote that reflects the unique bond between a person and their dog. It’s simple but emotional. I love that this product helps people honour their pets’ memory in a beautiful, lasting way—and that I can play a small role in bringing comfort during a really tough time. It’s more than décor; it’s a tribute to a best friend.
