What inspired you to start your business?
At Retea, we’re on a mission to make bubble tea sustainable, accessible, and affordable. We offer DIY bubble tea kits and reusable cups, empowering customers to create their favourite drinks at home sustainably. Whether it be bringing in our dedicated reusable bubble tea tumblers to your favourite boba/coffee shop or making drinks at home yourself without having to leave the house, we hope to solve the pain points of environmental impact and affordability.
How would you describe your brand?
Most of our ingredients are sourced from Taiwan giving our products an authentic and true flavour compared to other DIY bubble tea kits. Our tapioca pearls are also quick cook as traditional pearls take a few hours to make, whereas ours take less than 10 minutes depending on the consistency that you prefer. What makes DIY bubble tea unique is the customisability of the drinks that our customers can make. If they like their drinks sweeter or less sweet, this is easily adjustable during the DIY process. Another great thing about our Retea kits is that it’s a really unique gift and activity idea that’s appropriate for everyone of all ages as we have vegan, caffeine-free, lactose-free, and gluten-free options.

Why do you think it’s so popular?
The Brown Sugar Milk Tea has always been a popular flavour within the bubble tea community and it’s a great representation of bubble tea for those who aren’t familiar with it! The Tearista gift set specifically is an all-in-one package that comes with all the ingredients needed to make bubble tea as well as the bubble tea cup. The clear bubble tea cup is also iconic and is so fun seeing the drink come together during every step of the brewing process.
What’s your favourite product from your shop right now?
My personal favourite is our Boba Cozy which is the cup sleeve. It’s super cute and surprisingly more functional than most think. Not only is it adorable, but it can keep your drinks hot or cold, and the best part is that it’s able to fit most cups and drinks, not just the cup from Retea.
What’s your favourite local Winnipeg shop?
Besides Retea, I personally love @saven.art on instagram. She sells different types of stationary and products on her store with her art and her art style is just so clean and pretty.
