What inspired you to open your shop?
Acre75 Inc. is based on my small town dream. I wanted to create an online shop and Canadian subscription box where nearly every dollar spent supported a small town business. Having grown up in a small town in Ontario, I recognized early on how integral small businesses are to the vitality of small towns. Often, it’s the business owners who organize the community events and fundraisers that we all love attending. And those business owners also recirculate a large portion of their revenues back into their small towns by shopping locally themselves.
I could have started an online shop full of products made overseas but that didn’t align with my vision and values. Had I done that, I know for a fact my business wouldn’t still be around. The passion I feel towards Acre75 and each of the over 100 makers who I have connected with over the last six years is electric! I am on a mission to put $1 million back into small towns across Canada with my “little” online shop!
Acre75 Gathered Subscription Box
How would you describe your business?
Acre75’s flagship product is our Acre75 Gathered box. Acre75 Gathered is a seasonal subscription box that features items made in towns with less than 30,000 people across Canada. Packaged with love and mindfully curated to honour the changing season, we ship our boxes at the beginning of March, June, September and December. Each box includes an assortment of home goods, self-care products and tasty treats, intentionally curated for our subscribers to enjoy and share with friends and family.
Each season, my Mom, sister, sister-in-laws and friends help me pack and ship the boxes. When I say each box is packaged with love, I truly mean it! Each of these ladies share in my passion of small towns and I feel so fortunate to have them along on this journey with me.
One of my very favourite parts of the Acre75 Gathered unboxing experience is our tissue paper! I’ve had copies of my hometown newspaper that my Nana saved since the 70’s made into tissue paper. When you open an Acre75 Gathered box, you can literally feel the small town love. 🙂
What’s your best selling product and why do you think it’s so popular?
Our bestselling product is our Acre75 Gathered box. So much so that we are focusing solely on the subscription box going forward! We are planning to stock a few items on our Online Market but will encourage our subscribers to support the makers directly after they have discovered them in their Acre75 Gathered box. 🙂
I think our subscribers love their Acre75 Gathered box because it’s simple. It reminds them to slow down. It feels like home. It’s also an affordable way to support and discover numerous small town businesses with a single purchase. It takes the complexity out of shopping local.
What’s your personal favourite product from your shop right now?
I find it difficult to choose my favourites because I honestly love every single product we feature in Acre75 Gathered! These products are made by people just like me who are also living out their small town dream – that’s my favourite part of this business.
