Sugar Sandwich Design Studio is a made in Canada kids clothing brand and local British Columbia business based in Qualicum Beach.

What inspired you to start your business?

I am a retired Home Economics teacher and love to sew. When my first grandchild came along, I was motivated to begin sewing cute and tiny clothing for babies and kids. When I realized how quickly things were outgrown, I started focusing on design features that would make the clothing growth-spurt friendly.

How do you describe your business?

I use top quality Oeko-tex certified cotton/lycra fabrics imported from a few select European wholesalers. My Home Ec background gave me training in pattern design, so I start with basic clothing styles and then make a few adaptations to each piece to allow flexibility for growth. My fabrics are cute and colourful prints that kids adore, that are easy-care and durable. Families love my products for their long-lasting fit, quality fabrics and construction, and the fun, trendy designs. I sell mainly at markets and craft fairs as well as a few select makers outlets.

Why do you think it’s so popular?

The cuteness factor always pulls in customers at my markets, but the durability and long-lasting fit are game-changers for shoppers.

What’s your personal favourite product?

My personal favourite is the Baby Bundle collections with harem pants, matching hats, bandanas and teethers. I love them for the excitement they bring to my customers who are looking for unique and affordable baby gifts.
