What inspired you to start your business?
It all started with curiosity — and a little bit of frustration. Melanie, one of our co-founders, began questioning what exactly was in the personal care products she used every day. As someone with a background in neuropsychology and midwifery, she dove deep into the science and started making her own deodorant at home. The goal was to create something natural, safe, and effective against odour. After a particularly sweaty surf trip in the tropics where the formula was put to the test by her husband, Chris (and passed with flying colours!), we knew we had something worth sharing. From there, No Pong was born — a product made from scratch that’s grown into a proudly Canadian-made brand.
How would you describe your business?
No Pong is a natural deodorant brand focused on performance, simplicity, and feel-good freshness. Proudly made in Canada, our products are crafted with care using high-quality, food-grade ingredients like baking soda, coconut oil, corn starch, and pure essential oils. Our smooth, creamy formula is applied with your fingertips, just like a moisturizer, giving you a chance to connect with your body and notice any changes.
What makes us different? We’re completely focused on doing one thing, and one thing really well: making a natural deodorant that works. Our formulas have been tested everywhere from tropical surf trips to mountaintops to high-stress workdays, and they’ve also been clinically tested for efficacy.
We also care deeply about the planet. From day one, we committed to not using plastic in our packaging — no plastic sticks, caps, applicators, tubes or packing materials. Our metal tins are plastic and aluminum-free, fully recyclable and reusable, and we’re proud to be expanding our bulk refill program across Canada so customers can bring in their tins and top up in-store at select retailers.
What’s your bestselling product?
Our No Pong Original formula is the all-time favourite — and for good reason! It is clinically proven to kick odour to the curb for up to 24 hours. It smells great, and so will you!
Why do you think it’s so popular?
No Pong Original is our OG, the one that started it all. It has a soft, citrus and lemongrass scent with a hint of vanilla that’s fresh but not overpowering. It’s silky texture glides on easily without feeling greasy or transferring to clothing. What makes it a standout is how effective it is at stopping odour before it starts. Instead of masking smells, our formula prevents them from forming in the first place, thanks to the power of baking soda and moisture-absorbing ingredients like corn starch. It’s a product that’s simple in concept but powerful in action!
What’s your personal favourite product from your shop?
Right now, I’m obsessed with our Cool Lavender Vegan formula. It has this beautiful lavender rosemary scent that’s fresh, calming, and totally works whether it’s a hot summer day or the middle of winter. It’s also low baking soda for those who are sensitive, and it’s vegan (no beeswax). The texture is super smooth, and it feels so good to apply. It’s quickly becoming a customer fave and once people try it, they fall in love!
What’s your favourite Made In Canada business?
Three Ships Beauty. They’re doing amazing things in the clean skincare space and are proudly Canadian. Their commitment to transparency, quality ingredients, and making natural skincare more accessible really resonates with us. Plus, their products are beautiful and effective — just like good skincare should be!
