If you’re looking for a one stop shop for awesome products from Canadian businesses, look no further than The Pear Co. The Pear Co. is an Ontario gift shop based in Kirkland Lake that features products from over 100 women-owned Canadian businesses.
They bring in fun new arrivals for every season or you can check out their featured items, gift bundles, or take a look through their entire shop online or in-person. They have something for every occasion.
What inspired you to open your shop?
Owning a business is something that had always interested me. I remember at one point taking Reiki classes with the intention of offering Reiki treatments, but the more I pursued it, the less it felt like a good fit. Years later, after being involved in a serious car accident, I, along with my husband Richard, founded The Pear Co. We’re now five years into it, and I couldn’t be more in love with my cute lil pink boutique.
How would you describe your shop?
The Pear Co., is so much more than just a cute gift shop, supporting hundreds of predominantly woman-owned, Canadian businesses..and way more than just adorable, branded packaging. (even though it is pretty darn adorable..)
In many ways, TPC is a reflection of us.
Richard, is very meticulous and detail oriented.. which is perfect for what he brings to TPC. Along with countless other things, he packs all online orders for shipping, and has each order looking like the most perfect game of Tetris by the time he’s done.. so, no messy, carelessly thrown together shipments from TPC. The idea is to make recipients feel like they’re opening a gift from us, and judging from customer feedback, we’re doing just that.
Customer experience is EVERYTHING to us..
When planning out the storefront, I wanted people to feel like they were walking into a cute garden party, so we strung lights across the ceilings to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I believe in whimsy, love, and magic, and have sprinkled all of the above in TPC. From its pink walls, to heartfelt quotes and floral “Ambitious Woman” selfie walI.. it’s all here. I never fully understood what they meant by “you are the soul of your brand” until becoming a business owner, but I get it now..I totally get it.
What are some of your best selling products?
Shower steamers by Two Sisters Naturals, Lip Balms by Epic Blend, and Caramels by Pickle and Myrrh, are consistently our best sellers.
Why do you think your customers love them?
All are great, budget-friendly products, made by amazing woman-owned, Canadian Businesses, using clean, cruelty free ingredients.
What’s your current favourite product?
I am currently in LOVE with Favuzzi’s pastas, gnocchis and sparkling sodas… all soooo good!!
What are some of your favourite local Ontario shops?
There are so many great local businesses, each deserving to be favourited, but my heart belongs to, Witch in The Woods Tattoo, Creative Designs, and Emma Archer Photography
