Learn more about Good Bones Jewelry, what inspired Miranda to get started in business and what her bestselling piece is in our interview below.
What inspired you to start your business?
I’ve always been a maker – I started making and selling beaded jewelry when I was 15. It’s a compulsive need to make beautiful things, and a fun challenge to design something based on the criteria my clients give me!
How do you describe your business?
I use a blend of traditional and modern techniques – everything from hammers and anvils to CADCAM. The precious metals I use are 99% recycled from within the jewellery industry. My educational background is an advanced diploma in Jewellery Arts from George Brown College.
What’s your bestselling product?
My moissanite family pendants.
Why do you think it’s so popular?
My necklaces are a fresh, modern alternative to the multi-stoned family necklaces we all remember from catalogues in the 80s and 90s!
I use a diamond alternative that I love called moissanite – it’s a lab-created stone that doesn’t have the same ethical issues surrounding the diamond mining industry, but has very similar sparkle and durability.
Each family member is represented by a stone, flush set in the sterling silver so that they look like suspended sparkling droplets.
What’s your personal favourite product from your shop right now?
I have a chain bracelet with a very organic texture that catches the light so beautifully. It’s the piece that gets picked up the most often at my shows.
What’s your favourite local London, ON shop?
A Portugese bakery in London called Nova Era – I like to get a different treat every time I go.
